Dear Residents:

Hi Union Mills!

We have two community events going on right now! In case you missed it . . .

#1 Shout out to all of our Union Mills 2020 high school and college graduates! Please email us at social@unionmills.com by end of the day, TODAY (5/22/20), with your graduate’s name and address. We look forward to celebrating all our graduates by providing some special doughnuts to each of you. Adult graduates count too! If you know of a graduate in the neighborhood, please also email us so we can make sure we add them to the list!

#2 Family Community Clean-up started last weekend (May 15-17) and goes through Sunday, May 31st. Join with your family by helping to clean up trash in your surrounding common area or cul-de-sac.  The first 10 families who send us a picture of a community area they cleaned up and their “trophies” (garbage bags) by Sunday, May 31st will receive a large family pizza ordered from one of the local pizza restaurants. This is a win-win! The little things we do each day go a long way to protect our environment and help to maintain or improve the water and air quality and keep our community beautiful and clean. Remember to send your photo to social@unionmills.com by May 31st.
  • Please remember to respect social distance if you happen see other neighbors picking up trash in the same area as you.
  • Please remember to take healthy precautions.

Those important disclaimers: Please note that if you choose to submit a picture, you are providing your consent to posting the picture on the UMCA Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/UnionMillsHOA/ and website: https://www.unionmills.com/. Trash Bag Reminder

 Re: Trash Bag Reminder
      Union Mills Community Association

Dear Residents:

I'm reaching out to the entire community this morning and kindly asking if you can please put all trash bags in a container or toter. The below pictures of vultures getting into the trash bags is happening almost on a daily basis throughout the neighborhood. We are asking that you please help us keep the community clean by placing your trash bags in a toter. We understand that this can still happen for cans that are overflowing but if everyone cooperates it shouldn't happen as often. If you need a toter please call Patriot Disposal at 703-257-7100 and they will be able to assist you. If you are putting out plastic bags, we ask that it please be a heavy duty trash bag and not a thin flimsy bag that is easily accessible to vultures or any other animals who may be interested in the bags.

Mallard Watch Way Residents:
If you live in the first section on Mallard, you will notice that the Board approved and installed new shrubs to be planted around the tree and river rock. If you live in this section of Mallard Watch Way, please DO NOT put trash in this area or pile it on top of the shrubs or tree as you will eventually kill the tree and new shrubs. Please place your trash across the street by the light pole. If you are an absentee owner in this section, please send this reminder to your tenants. As you can see in the picture below, there was a massive amount of trash yesterday in this area. Please do your part in helping us maintain the common grounds by not putting trash in this area.

If you are putting bulk items out for pickup, Patriot will not pick them up. Please call them to arrange a special pickup using the phone number provided above.

Thank you everyone for your support as we continue to address the trash issues in the community. With your help we will be able to maintain the common grounds and hopefully get rid of these pesky vultures that continue to be a nuisance.
Sincerely,

Natalie McCracken

Spring Contest Photo winners and Other Updates

Re: Spring Photo Contest Winners
Dear Community:

We celebrated this week Earth Day (April 22) which was the 50th anniversary and National Arbor Day (April 24). We are happy to announce that the Board of Directors recently passed a proposal that will focus primarily on planting several trees and shrubs throughout the community during the month of May.

We usually plan for a spring community clean up the week of these 2 events but all the spring community events were canceled to ensure we respect the government and local authorities’ recommendations and avoid any social interactions that could make this situation worse. Feel free to celebrate these events this weekend or in the coming week with your family by helping to clean up of any trash your surrounding common area or cul-de-sac. The little things we do each day go a long way to protect our environment and help to maintain or improve the water and air quality. If you do go out to help cleaning please feel free to send any photos you will take to social@unionmills.com and we can post them on our Facebook page. We usually find a lot of "trophies" with our spring and fall community clean ups. (Continued)

Re: Community Online Spring Photo Contest

CELEBRATING SPRING!
Spring is here, Easter is near, and a little celebration is good for us all!
You might decorate an egg, hang a sign, or even throw in a ball –
Be creative, be fun, and get those windows filled with something new,
People can see it on the Facebook page and celebrate Spring with you!

Dear Community,

This is a challenging time for all of us as individuals, a community and a nation with the coronavirus outbreak.

Our Social Times Committee has had to cancel the recent spring events planned to ensure we respect the government and local authorities’ recommendations and avoid any social interactions that could make this situation worse. However, this does not have to stop us from "socializing" on our online communication platforms as a Community! (continued)

Re: Temporary changes for trash and recycling pick up

I hope this email finds you well. Over the last few days I've been working with Patriot to better clarify the changes that are currently being made during their routine pick ups. Please read the following information below carefully to ensure your trash and recycling continues to be picked up.

Effective immediately, Patriot Disposal will only pick up trash and recycling that is put in a closed trash and recycling container. Trash or recycling outside of the container, including bagged trash, will not be collected. This is only temporary until COVID-19 is behind us. (cont)
